The hotel was on a small, quiet bay just to the
south of Acapulco itself. On our second full day
we booked a four hour tour of the city in a large, air-conditioned taxi
that we shared with two
nice Argentinian women who sadly spoke as much English as we could
manage Spanish, i.e. not
a lot. Through the help of the taxi driver we found out that they were
also planning to go to
Monterrey.
The tour started with a fabulous view down over
Acapulco bay from the hills to the south before
we descended into the city and were taken to a jewellery shop - it
happens everywhere. We
then went to see the famous cliff divers of La Quebrada, who dive into
fierce waters that lash
into the cliffs below them, before ending up at the city's official
Handicraft Market for Tourists.
The city was so busy and the weather so incredibly hot that we were
glad to retreat back to our
hotel.
